6 Day Trip - Fes to Desert, Gorges, Kasbahs to Marrakesh
Day 1: Fes to Sahara Merzouga Desert
Pickup from your riad at 8 am and travel south through the Cedar forest with its native monkeys. After lunch in Middelt, Morocco’s apple capital, drive pass by the Middle Atlas Tizi n’Telghmt pass and Ziz Valley with its Palm groves and Gorges. There will be a stop in Arfoud, famous for its fossils, followed by a camel ride to the middle of the Sahara Merzouga sand dunes camp. The evening will feature Berber hospitality around a campfire before settling in the tent.
Day 2: Merzouga Desert to Dades Gorges
The day will begin with a camel ride, then travel to the Berber village Rissani and a visit to the Todgha Gorges. After lunch at a local restaurant with panoramic views, there will be time to explore the Todgha Valley and oasis. Overnight accommodation will be in Dades Gorges.
Day 3:Dades Gorges to Agdez
After breakfast there will be time to explore the Dades Gorges, then travel south through the Saghro Mountains with lunch at the Berber village of Nkob. Afterwards its onto the Draa Valley to explore the oasis and visit Kasbah of Tamnougalte. Overnight accommodation will be in a historic restored kasbah.
Day 4: Agdez to Sahara Desert Chegaga dunes
After breakfast travel south through Zagora then to Tamgrout where will be a stop to explore the ancient library as well as visit a local potter producing ceramics using hand methods.
After lunch at the Berber village M’Hamid there will be two hours offroading in the desert with a stop to visit a nomad family in their tents. Then onto a camel ride to the overnight camp, view a splendid Sahara desert sunset, enjoy Berber hospitality including music around a campfire.
Day 5: Chegaga Dunes to Ouarzazate
After breakfast in the heart of the Chegaga Desert, you will depart the camp with many wonderful memories, travel north for three hours offroading in the desert and stop for lunch at Taznakht, Morocco’s carpet capital. Then you will travel to Ouarzazate to visit the Atlas Film Studio and settle in a riad.
Day 6: Ouarzazate to Marrakesh
After breakfast, travel north to visit the UNESCO protected Ait Ben Haddo Kasbah. Then follow the ancient caravan route from Timbuktu through the Ounila Valley to Kasbah Telouet, followed by lunch. Afterwards travel will be north through the High Atlas mountains to pass by the highest pass of Tizi n Tichka, view Berber villages with opportunities for splendid panoramic pictures. Arrival to Marrakesh will be in late afternoon.
